Rape victim sues after her DNA was used in robbery investigation
The lawsuit comes at a time Gov. Gavin Newsom is considering a bill overwhelmingly approved by the Legislature that would ban police departments from maintaining rape victims' DNA for use in criminal investigations.




The San Francisco Police Department kept a rape victim’s DNA sample in a database and used it to arrest her for an unrelated burglary, according to a federal lawsuit filed Monday.
Criminal charges against the victim were dropped and the city says its policies are up to standard and “legally vetted.”
