Hacker describes breaching Uber's system and how company officials dealt with him

Vasile Mereacre told a court that he came up with the idea to reach out to Uber to extract money from the company after obtaining the personal data of 600,000 Uber drivers and the email addresses and phone numbers of 57 million Uber users and drivers.

More details have emerged about the 2016 data breach at Uber Technologies Inc. during the criminal trial of Uber's former head of security. Two important witnesses testified: one of the hackers that perpetrated the breach and the person managing Uber's bug bounty program at the time.
