Umberg may agree to paraprofessionals with beefed up enforcement
The chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee drew the line at allowing non-lawyers to invest in law firms.
Senate Judiciary Chair Tom Umberg said this week he might be receptive to limited proposals around expanding legal services in California — but only if the State Bar shows it has improved attorney discipline. Certain ideas, such as non-lawyers investing in law firms, will still be off limits, he added.
