Insurers seek to intervene in oil spill suit against ships

SUMMARY/TEASE: The four insurance companies have contracts to provide $201 million in liability coverage for Amplify Energy Corp., and have already paid out $78 million “to remedy the oil spill and reasonably expect to make additional substantial payments,” said the motion to intervene filed Monday in federal court in Santa Ana.

Insurers for the company responsible for the 2021 Huntington Beach oil spill have asked a federal judge to let them protect their interests by intervening in the case against ships accused of breaking the pipeline.
