Caste claims violate Indian Americans’ rights, lawsuit says

The recent case grows out of a separate lawsuit in Silicon Valley. In 2020, the department sued Cisco System Inc. and two "higher caste" supervisors, alleging they discriminated and retaliated against an employee from the Dalit, or "untouchable," caste.

A Hindu group has sued the California Civil Rights Department for allegedly violating the rights of Hindus by filing a discrimination claim "wrongly tying Hindu beliefs and practices to the abhorrent practice of caste discrimination."
