FBI agent’s counsel seeks to discredit DOJ witness

San Francisco attorney Steven F. Gruel tried to use suspended attorney Edgar Sargsyan’s unexpected admission that he never took the bar exam to undermine the government’s case against his client. His questions reflected the fact that Sargsyan has testified for the government in several cases.

A lawyer for a former FBI agent accused of taking bribes tried to discredit the government’s key witnesses on Friday, questioning him about his own past criminality and admission that he paid a law partner to take the California Bar Exam for him.
