State Bar approves new client trust account rules
The initial phase of the program, which is expected to be implemented for the 2023 license renewal cycle that begins Dec. 1, will require that current attorneys report annually to the bar whether they are responsible for client trust accounts, complete an annual self-assessment, and certify annually to the they know the Rules of Professional Conduct regarding safeguarding client funds. It also includes a new rule of court giving the bar the authority to implement the program, including education regarding it and several other changes.




The State Bar has approved several new rules for the Client Trust Account Protection Program, aiming to strengthen proactive oversight and regulation of the funds after some high-profile scandals involving prominent attorneys stealing from their clients.
