Jury convicts former FBI agent of taking bribes from attorney

“This sends a strong message that if there are any corrupt federal law enforcement agents who are engaging in bribery, we’re going to find them and we’re going to prosecute them, and it sends a message to anyone in law enforcement who’s thinking about engaging in corruption that they’re going to be prosecuted,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Ruth C. Pinkel said after the verdict.

A former FBI agent has been found guilty of taking bribes from a former Beverly Hills attorney who admitted during the course of the case that he lied about taking and passing the bar exam.

A federal jury found Babak Broumand guilty on Tuesday of one count of conspiracy, two counts of bribery and one count of monetary transactions in property derived from unlawful activity.
