Lawyer sentenced for deception diagnosed with neurological disease
Prosecutors said in some cases Matthew Charles Elstein of Redondo Beach never initiated any legal actions on behalf of clients. He admitted to misappropriating funds by falsely informing victims their fees would go to his client trust account when they were actually deposited in his personal account.




A former attorney, who his attorney says has a degenerative brain disease, was sentenced to serve three years in federal prison for lying to clients about winning cases for them and then misleading them with phony documents bearing the forged signature of a judge.
