Attorney general can’t intervene in Anaheim housing case, judge rules

Orange County Superior Court Judge John C. Gastelum denied the ex parte application in a minute order, accepting the city’s argument that the state’s urgent intervention is unnecessary and without grounds.

Attorney General Rob Bonta on Thursday lost his attempt to intervene in a lawsuit accusing the City of Anaheim of improperly blocking housing for homeless and disabled women.

Bonta made the request on behalf of the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) on the grounds that the agency should be involved in ensuring compliance with housing laws.
