Senate committee holds rare recess hearing on California judge nominees

Chairman Richard Durbin, D-IL, said mid-recess committee hearings are rare but have happened multiple times in the past, including at least four times when the Republicans last had control of the Senate.

The Senate Judiciary Committee held a rare mid-recess hearing Wednesday to further along President Biden’s nominations of University of Montana professor Anthony D. Johnstone to the sole vacancy on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Daniel J. Calabretta for the Eastern District of California.
