Landlords waited too long to challenge eviction moratorium, judge rules

A federal judge has evicted a challenge to California’s lapsed unlawful detainer moratorium.
Lawmakers phased out the pandemic protections for renters effective July 1. But the case is one of many where plaintiffs have continued to challenge restrictions related to COVID-19 after they were no longer in effect, saying their aim is to curb government power the next time an emergency arises.
