ACLU attorney pushed the San Francisco police to reform

Remembered for his brilliant legal mind, fierce advocacy and proposals for improving police-community interactions, John M. Crew, an attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California, died Oct. 7. He was 65.

Attorney Samara Marion, the former policy director for the San Francisco Department of Police Accountability, was a longtime friend of Crew’s.
