Swimming leagues both request summary judgment in anticompetition case

ISL and the swimmers alleged FINA engaged in anticompetitive conduct when it required FINA’s national federation members to boycott any swimming events not sanctioned by FINA and blocked swimmers who chose to compete in those events from representing their national federations in the Olympics.

Fédération Internationale de Natation, International Swimming League Ltd. and professional swimmers argued Thursday for dueling summary judgment motions in a dispute over whether FINA has monopoly or monopsony power to prevent athletes from participating in non-FINA sanctioned events.

U.S. District Judge Jacqueline S. Corley did not immediately issue a ruling.
