Consolidation mulled for restaurants’ suits over fees under shutdown

The lawsuits were brought by restaurants that were charged fees for various business licenses while at the same time county and city governments ordered them to stop operating to prevent COVID transmission.

A superior court judge will decide whether multiple lawsuits throughout the state by restaurants who were charged permit fees during the COVID-19 mandated business shutdowns should be remanded back to their counties of origin, as the defendants’ request, or tried in Los Angeles, as the plaintiffs want.
