Judicial Council begins mediator program for retired judges

Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye said the new civil mediation program will rely on judges listed in the Temporary Assigned Judges Program, which had been the subject of several years of litigation over restrictions on the ages of the judges.

Retired judges will now be made available to provide free mediation to litigants throughout the state, the Judicial Council announced Wednesday, but an attorney suing over age discrimination against judges called the new program “superfluous.”
