Future of bar commission suggests creation of new exam

The Blue Ribbon Commission on the Future of the California Bar Exam provisionally recommended that the new exam include seven primary areas: drafting and writing, research and investigation, issue spotting and fact gathering, counsel/advice, litigation, communication and client relationship, and negotiation and dispute resolution.

Apparently giving up on achieving consensus on most proposals for non-exam pathways for attorney licensure, the Blue Ribbon Commission on the Future of the California Bar Exam approved several motions Thursday recommending a revised bar exam.

After a draft report of its recommendation, based on a list of guiding principles for exam revision, the commission will meet again in January. Next steps would be public comment on the exam changes, ...
