Walgreens faces $8B opioid claim in San Francisco, after $10B national settlement
The national settlement will have no bearing on San Francisco’s attempt to recoup $8 billion from the pharmacy chain after a judge found it had substantially contributed to an opioid crisis in the city and county. San Francisco is specifically excluded from the global settlement and so the trial phase for damages will begin Monday.




Damages of $8 billion are being sought against Walgreens Co. in hearings beginning Monday after a judge’s finding that the company was a “substantial contributing factor” in perpetuating the opioid crisis in San Francisco.
