Activists can intervene to stop oil trucks on Santa Barbara County roads

Exxon Mobil has accused the board of supervisors of violating the takings and commerce clauses of the U.S. and California Constitutions, and illegally exercising police powers by blocking oil trucks from the county’s scenic roads.

A federal judge will allow environmental and indigenous groups to intervene in defense of Santa Barbara County in a lawsuit by Exxon Mobil Corp., which is suing for the right to ship oil by truck along scenic roads — a process the advocacy groups said would be dangerous and environmentally unsound.
