$8B Walgreens damages trial pauses for deal talks
The damages trial was to have begun Monday after San Francisco Superior Court Judge Charles Breyer issued a 112-page order in the summer that Walgreens was a “substantial factor” in perpetuating the opioid epidemic and created a public nuisance due to its failure to control suspect opioid prescriptions within San Francisco.




The damages phase of the $8 billion trial between Walgreens and the city and county of San Francisco stemming from the pharmacy chain’s adjudged role in the opioid epidemic has been put on hold by U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer to allow for settlement talks to progress.
