Injunction sought to end Meta collection of medical data

The plaintiffs say Meta’s alleged medical data gathering is a violation of wiretap and privacy laws as well as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 affecting more than 660 HIPAA covered entities and millions of patients.

Patients who use hospital websites asked a judge to grant a mandatory injunction to stop Meta Platforms Inc. from using Meta Pixel to gather their information and communications with their medical providers without notice or permission, data they say is being used for targeted ads.
