At least seven new attorneys will take their seats, including three who made their LGBT identities a major part of their campaigns.

Former Assemblyman and Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones was narrowly trailing Sacramento City Councilwoman Angelique Ashby in the race for an open Senate seat.

Two things will remain the same when the California Legislature reconvenes next month: Democrats will hold their supermajorities in both houses, and attorney will be the most common professional background among lawmakers.
