Twitter seeks dismissal of user data misuse claims

The company argued the users voluntarily provided Twitter their phone numbers and email addresses after it expressly disclosed in its privacy policy that the information would be used for both security and advertising, adding the same users were informed they had the option to opt out of this interest-based advertising.

Twitter Inc. asked a judge Monday to dismiss claims it gathered users’ contact information under the guise of security and then used that information for advertising without notice or consent.
