Judicial Council director to retire with chief justice

The timing of Hoshino’s departure is not ideal for incoming chief justice Patricia Guerrero. She has never served on the Judicial Council and will not have an experienced administrator like Martin Hoshino, who spent 35 years in public service and knew the ins and outs of Sacramento.

Judicial Council Administrative Director Martin Hoshino announced Tuesday he will retire at the end of the year, a departure that will set up a bigger challenge for incoming chief justice Patricia Guerrero.

He has been the council’s administrative director for eight years and was trusted by state legislators and outgoing Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye.
