US judge reluctantly pauses state’s suit against energy groups
U.S. District Judge William Alsup denied the initial request by the parties for a 180-day extension, calling that time line “far too lax” in light of the failed negotiations thus far. He ordered a settlement in 90 days.




A federal judge in San Francisco reluctantly paused a lawsuit by the state against a group of energy companies for the second time on Wednesday, ordering that a settlement be reached within 90 days regarding cleanup costs of a toxic waste facility incurred by the state.
