Unusual opposition speech as 3 appellate justices are confirmed
The new justices are Therese M. Stewart, confirmed as presiding justice of the 1st District Court of Appeal, Division 2 in San Francisco; Superior Court Judge Gregory Weingart, who will serve in Division 2 of the 2nd District Court of Appeal in Los Angeles, and Superior Court Judge Victor Viramontes will join Division 8 in the Los Angeles based appellate court.




The Commission on Judicial Appointments confirmed three new appellate justices on Wednesday, though one of them faced a lengthy and unusual opposition speech.
That justice is Therese M. Stewart, who was confirmed as presiding justice of the 1st District Court of Appeal, Division 2 in San Francisco. She'll replace J. Anthony Kline, who held the job for nearly 40 years before retiring late last year.
