The Bureau of Land Management allows bathers to soak in the hot springs adjacent to the habitat of an endangered mammal, the Amargosa vole, in Tecopa in 2017. The Amargosa River system, in southern Nevada and eastern California, flows through the Mojave Desert, giving life to plants and animals found nowhere else in the world. New York Times News Service

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management failed to prevent recreational overuse in parts of the Mojave Desert adversely affecting the ecological habitat of a rodent species, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday.
