Restaurants’ suits over fees during lockdown to remain combined

Los Angeles County Judge Stuart M. Rice denied without prejudice a motion by the defendants to remand the individual cases back to their home courts, despite contentions from the defense that the facts of each case are distinct enough to warrant separate proceedings which may result in distinct rulings.

Coordinated proceedings will continue for now in a lawsuit between restaurant owners and multiple cities and counties throughout the state over fees the businesses had to pay though they were ordered to shut down because of COVID-19, a Los Angeles County judge ruled at a hearing on Wednesday.
