As Section 230 is debated, US judge cites courts’ consensus

Santa Clara County Judge Sunil R. Kulkarni cited Section 230 of Communications Decency Act — a law passed in 1996 that allows internet platforms such as social media companies to avoid liability for the content posted by third party users — as his basis for tossing the case.

A lawsuit filed against Meta Platforms Inc., Instagram Inc., and company founder Mark Zuckerberg accusing them of failing to prevent the spread of misinformation related to the COVID-19 vaccine was dismissed by Santa Clara Superior Court Judge Sunil R. Kulkarni.
