Judge threatens to sanction lawyers seeking gun law injunction

U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez said the plaintiff’s attorneys, seeking a preliminary injunction against a law that allows private right of action lawsuits against gun manufacturers, had caused unnecessary delay and court costs because the state attorney general had said his office doesn’t intend to enforce the law.

U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez has threatened sanctions against attorneys seeking a preliminary injunction against a California law allowing a private right of action against the makers and sellers of firearms.

The case, originally a challenge to California’s restrictions on certain semi-automatic rifles and large capacity magazines, was filed before Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the law that is at issue in the motion.
