Rohingya refugee can refile case accusing Meta of inciting genocide, judge says

‘At the end of the day we are confident that we can demonstrate to a jury that, to borrow a phrase from its own employees, Meta was a party to a genocide,” plaintiff’s lawyer Jay Edelson said.

A federal judge in Oakland on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit brought against Meta Platforms by a Rohingya Muslim woman in the United States who claims Facebook contributed to genocide against the Rohingya by allegedly encouraging and pushing hate speech, misinformation and incitements of violence. But after hearing oral arguments, U.S. District Judge Yvonne G. Rogers gave the woman’s lawyers a chance to refile their case.
