Judge blocks California law on private suits against gun businesses

Senior U.S. District Judge Roger T. Benitez, an appointee of President George W. Bush, granted the injunction sought by various gun rights groups and firearms stores against SB 1327, a law signed last summer by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

A federal judge in San Diego on Friday enjoined enforcement of a provision of a state law that copies a Texas anti-abortion statute to allow private parties in California to sue gunmakers and their attorneys, according to an attorney for the plaintiffs.
