Newsom says judge agreed on Texas law, judge says he didn’t

SB 1327 copied SB 8 — the Texas statute that allows private parties to sue anyone who assists with an abortion — even though Newsom and his lawyers describe that law as a “cynical” effort to bypass judicial review.

Gov. Gavin Newsom says a pointed judicial rebuke, declaring unconstitutional a provision of a state law he signed allowing individuals to sue gunmakers, is actually a victory.
