State, nonprofit sued or threatened several cities over housing plans in 2022
According to data from the Department of Housing & Community Development, 319 jurisdictions are past the deadline to have revised housing plans approved by their city or county officials. Of those, 145 have not yet adopted a compliant plan for review. The current cycle of evaluation is still ongoing for another 220 jurisdictions that still have time to get their plans approved within their deadlines.

Several California cities were sued or were threatened with litigation in 2022 for failing to comply with affordable housing laws. The two biggest actors behind this effort have been the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization Californians for Homeownership, which is sponsored by the California Association of Realtors, and the California Department of Justice's Housing Strike Force, which was established just over a year ago.
