Women’s soccer counsel argue for fees at 30% of common fund

The class counsel’s fee request is opposed by former goalkeeper Hope Solo, whose attorney, A.J. de Bartolomeo at Tadler Law LLP, maintained that $6.6 million in fees plus $1.3 million in additional expenses, which is approximately 33% of the total settlement, unfairly exceeds the 25% benchmark set by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The class counsel in a $24 million equal pay settlement for the U.S. women’s soccer team responded to former goalkeeper Hope Solo’s objection to $6.6 million in attorney fees by saying that they are not seeking anything close to a lodestar amount in fees.

The amount they seek is 30% of the common fund.
