Permanent remote work has downsides and benefits for law firms

“Working remotely, in my opinion, has made employees less loyal to their employers, and employees less loyal to one another. There are just more employees with remote work who feel disaffected and fungible because their working culture has changed,” said Thomas E. Wallerstein, a partner in Venable’s commercial litigation practice in San Francisco.

As some workers returned to the office in 2022, the impact of more than two years of remote work has changed law firm life. For better or worse, lawyers say that work schedules likely won't go back to the way they were.
