Legal clarity still elusive in world of no amateurs in college sports

“Recent name, image and likeness developments have created murky waters for sports agents across the country. Although the NCAA and many states now allow student-athletes to profit from their NIL, the rules from these bodies have generally failed to instruct sports agents on how to represent student-athletes lawfully,” stated Brandon LaRose and Matthew W. Sawchak of Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson PA.

In 2022, 14 states either introduced or passed legislation codifying the rights of college athletes to profit from their name, image and likeness, expediting the need for lawyers attempting to represent the athletes to get clear guidelines from Legislatures, government agencies and the NCAA.
