Civil rights agency files first suit under expanded Section 8
Criticizing the law, California Landlord Association founder Chris Airola, said, “There’s no protection for the landlord. Since the 2019 bill was passed more landlords are selling properties to corporate buyers — who are not all complying with the rules, by the way — or they’re just selling the property and taking the rental stock off the market.”




The California Civil Rights Department filed its first lawsuit to enforce the expanded version of the federal Section 8 housing voucher program against two Sacramento area landlords on Wednesday.
The state says they retaliated against a tenant who refused to continue making side payments inconsistent with the program.
