Oil companies sue LA, say drilling ban is unconstitutional

Each filing claims that the city did not carry out environmental studies required by the California Environmental Quality Act, or CEQA, before adopting the ordinance banning further drilling. The complaints also say the ordinance violates the state and federal Constitutions.

The City of Los Angeles faced multiple new lawsuits this week from oil companies targeting the city council’s decision to phase out all oil drilling operations, with a third lawsuit joining two previously filed petitions on Wednesday.
