Suits over business permit fees under shutdowns settled
Brian S. Kabateck represents plaintiffs in coordinated proceedings in Los Angeles County Superior Courtand said he expects these cases to go to trial eventually rather than be resolved, as Orange County did last week for $1.7 million, and earlier, San Diego County, for $4.5 million in 2021.




Orange County’s recent decision to pay $1.7 million to settle a class action stemming from operating fees the county ordered restaurants to pay after ordering them to close because of COVID-19 will lessen the number of similar cases from around the state that are in coordinated proceedings in Los Angeles Superior Court.
