LA courts offer range of perks to retain court reporters
"Without a change to our current trajectory, the future is clear: As early as next year, the court will not have enough court reporters to provide a verbatim record in most proceedings including criminal felony and juvenile justice cases, where court reporters are required by law," Superior Court Executive Officer and Clerk of Court David W. Slayton said.




Finders’ fees, retention and hiring bonuses to encourage court reporters to enter and remain in the profession were announced Wednesday by the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
With $9.5 million in funding from the state budget, the court plans to offer student loan repayments, salary increases and other rewards that will help provide financial incentives and increase interest in the field.
