Dueling water sharing proposals might draw in US government

What the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation got from its water users this week was two vastly different proposals: The first was submitted jointly by six of the seven states; the second came from California, home to the river’s largest water user, which happens to have the most senior water rights.

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation asked the seven states that depend on the Colorado River to come up with a water reduction plan by Jan. 31 to help it figure out how to manage the dwindling water supply and balance the competing interests claiming it.
