The phrase “tax shelter” has a pejorative connotation. You may think of a U.S. person using a Cayman Islands trust to avoid paying income tax. Or you may think of the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS’s) annual “Dirty Dozen List.” In 2022, that included “Abusive Syndicated Conservation Easements” and “Monetized Installment Sales.”
