Shipping companies pay $45M for Orange County spill

With the class successful in both settlements, Amplify Energy and the shipping defendants are now set to face off against each other in the case. Amplify has argued that the oil spill could have been averted if the ships had either avoided striking the pipe or had reported the collisions when they happened.

Multiple shipping companies have agreed to pay $45 million to class members affected by the 25,000-gallon oil pipeline leak off Huntington Beach in October 2021. The class previously collected a $50 million settlement with the owner of the pipeline, Amplify Energy Corp. in November.
