$185M MLB settlement not final until all players are notified

Almost all of the 350 or so players left out of the settlement had signed a Minor League Uniform Player Contract but were not considered “active” on Nov. 6, 2020, the time that MLB compiled data to identify individuals to receive notice of the class in January 2021.

Around 350 eligible Major League Baseball players were left out of a $185 million settlement with the league last year over failure to pay wages, a federal court found this week.

The court has ordered that those players be notified of the settlement ahead of a final approval hearing later this month. Senne et al. v. Office of the Commissioner of Baseball et al., 3:14-cv-00608-JCS (N.D. Cal, filed Feb. 7, 2014).
