LA must redo tree removal plan aimed at even sidewalks

Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff sided with the plaintiffs, United Neighborhoods for Los Angeles, who argued that the city’s environmental report did not consider the cumulative impacts of 13,000 trees being removed. The city still has to comply with another court order to remove roots that make sidewalks dangerous.

A Los Angeles community group scored a rare CEQA win when a judge ordered the city to rescind its environmental impact report for a sidewalk improvement project that would have uprooted nearly 13,000 mature trees to keep the roots from causing accidents for disabled people.
