Riverside DA blames court for 1,700 case dismissals
“Sacramento County also had a backlog when waivers went away. They did not dismiss cases. They worked with different parties, extended hours when necessary, brought in retired judges, held Saturday zoom court — all that helped make sure they didn’t dismiss cases. Our bench is unwilling to do anything like this,”said Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin.




The Riverside County Superior Court has dismissed nearly 1,700 criminal cases since pandemic emergency orders expired in October because judges were not available, according to the district attorney.
About 90% of the dismissed cases were misdemeanors; 10% were felonies.
