Tesla recall could impact prosecution over self-driving car

Tesla's self-driving software is already the subject of multiple court cases in Los Angeles County related to a fatal crash in December 2019, including two civil cases and the criminal prosecution that was set for a pretrial conference Thursday at the Compton Courthouse.

Thursday’s recall of 362,800 Teslas equipped with self-driving software could impact what is expected to be the first criminal prosecution over a fatal crash involving one of the auto manufacturer’s vehicles, which is set to go to trial later this year in Los Angeles County.

Criminal defense attorney Nina Marino, who is not involved in the case, called the recall “an interesting bit of evidence.”
