San Francisco appeals injunction on its anti-camping laws
“This litigation disregards those efforts and threatens to move the city backward. It will force the city to invest more in shelter at the expense of permanent supportive housing, which is opposite of both the city and the plaintiffs’ stated goals,” said City Attorney David Chiu.




San Francisco filed its opening brief Wednesday, appealing a federal preliminary injunction that forbade it from enforcing anti-camping laws on city streets until it can guarantee shelter beds for all the homeless, even if they don’t want shelter.
The city says it wants to focus its resources on substantive, permanent housing for those who want to get off the streets.
