The Merced County Superior Courthouse was renamed in honor of native son Charles Ogletree Jr., who grew up working in fields around Merced but went on to become one of Harvard Law School’s most notable professors.
Ogletree was instrumental in the formation of the Equal Justice Society, a group whose mission is to transform the nation’s perspective on race through law, social science, and the arts.
